Vivien has a general psychotherapy practice treating individuals, couples and families. She works with post traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, substance abuse and a variety of other issues.

Vivien also is available to discuss the immediate impact of a life threatening diagnosis, specifically cancer.  She helps clients cultivate an emotional "toolbox"  designed to help them cope with overwhelming decisions which are sometimes complicated by paralyzing anxiety. Her goal is to help clients navigate their choices with clarity rather than fear.

In addition, she offers support to family members, as well as supervision to other therapists who are unfamiliar with issues surrounding illness, grief and loss.

For the past ten years Vivien has led retreats in both Maine and Montana for women with ovarian cancer. Offering a multitude of workshops as well as individual therapy sessions, these retreats are meant to serve as additional support to women coping with metastatic disease.

Here are examples of some recent workshops:

  • Choosing your team: how to choose the best medical support system for your individual needs
  • The healing power of humor for managing cancer stress
  • Faith and spirituality on the cancer journey
  • Managing depression after a cancer diagnosis
  • How do we say goodbye when we've barely said hello: losing friends with cancer
  • Living with recurrence or the fear of it
  • When enough is enough: how to decide when it's time to discontinue treatment
  • Finding clarity in a maze of confusion: making decisions about end of life care
