Viv is deservedly beloved by the legions of people living with cancer and their families whom she has helped over the last twelve years at Cancer Connection. She facilitates the ovarian cancer and caregivers and families support groups as well as bereavement groups with tenderness and skill.

Vivien’s title may be ‘social worker’ but helping people cope with serious illness is her calling.

In early 2012, just six months after diagnosis with incurable cancer, major surgery and intense chemotherapy, I met Vivien Weiss. I was terrified, angry, and hopeless, but my first conversation with Vivien was like a warm embrace. Her compassionate acceptance encouraged my trust and allowed me to safely explore my deepest feelings.  Since then, her wise counsel has enabled me to confront my fears, helped me develop personalized tools to cope with my frustrations, and successfully endure years of battling cancer.  Although I am still battling cancer and live nearly 1000 miles away, Vivien continues to provide long distance support and today I live a happy life, full of hope.

Viv is a gifted listener and guide. Although technically she is a highly trained psychotherapist, her compassionate and caring nature bring a sense of peace and direction to our therapeutic work together.  She has helped me navigate my journey from cancer diagnosis to wellness despite the fact that I live on the West Coast and she practices on the East Coast.  I wish there were more “Viviens” in the world---she is a skilled therapist who is willing to talk with me about uncomfortable subjects (loss, depression, dying, illness) and lead me to a life that is full of joy, creativity, delight and wonder.
